Boston’s Tom Scholz on Alice Cooper’s Radio Show
Veteran shock rocker Alice Cooper will feature Boston’s Tom Scholz on an upcoming episode of his well-known radio program, Nights With Alice Cooper.
Scholz is scheduled to join Cooper on Wednesday, April 16 and will probably talk about the Boston’s upcoming tour, which begins on June 6 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Cooper’s show airs 5 nights a week for 5 hours, which must keep the man pretty busy considering he’s still doing shows on the road and is working on a new album.
For more information on Alice Cooper’s show and to see if it airs on a radio station in your area, check out the website for the show.

Boston on Tour This Summer
June 6 is the date that makes the beginning of Boston’s summer tour. The classic rock group will be in Thunder Bay, Ontario at the outdoor festival at Marina Park.
Joining Boston for the tour will be two new additions to the line-up,
including Michael Sweet, the former Stryper frontman who will be helping on vocals and guitar.
The other new member is Tommy DeCarlo who came to the attention of Boston by posting his Boston cover performances on his MySpace page. Tom Scholz was reportedly impressed with DeCarlo’s vocal ability and shocked to discover the similarities between DeCarlo’s voice and that of late Boston singer Brad Delp.
Boston’s summer tour schedule looks like it will be comprised of about 40 shows in locations in the U.S. and Canada.
The set list for the tour will include fan favorites from the groups five studio albums, including a few fan favorites that the group has not performed live for a number of years.
For tour details, check out Boston’s official website.

Tom Scholz Asks Huckabee To Stop Playing Boston Tune
It’s certainly not new to see certain celebrities get in on the act during Presidential campaigns and the current campaign is no exception.
Boston’s Tom Scholz is no stranger to controversy. His disputes with fellow band members, and even their spouses, are well known and continue to this day. Now it seems he may be embroiled in one involving Presidential politics.
Apparently, Republican Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee of Arkansas has been using one of Boston’s well-known hits during campaign appearances. Boston’s “More Than A Feeling” has been performed by Huckabee — who happens to be a bass player himself — and his band, “Capitol Offense.”
Scholz is said to have fired off a letter to Huckabee asking him to stop using the song, although it appears that at least one former member of Boston does not agree.
Former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau has appeared at campaign events with Huckabee and obviously has no problem with the former Arkansas Governor using Boston’s music.
It’s apparent that Scholz is not in line with Huckabee’s view of the world and wrote that “Boston has never endorsed a political candidate, and with all due respect, would not start by endorsing a candidate who is the polar opposite of most everything Boston stands for.”
Huckabee’s former New Hampshire campaign manager says Scholz is being “ridiculous” and that he has never heard Huckabee play “More Than A Feeling” except when Barry Goudreau was campaigning with him back in October.
Scholz maintains that Huckabee has been using “More Than A Feeling” as a “centerpiece” at rallies and that Barry Goudreau is identified in association with Boston as part of a Huckabee endorsement video.
For those interested in the political leanings of their favorite celebrities, it is not difficult to figure them out when they decide to get involved in political campaigns.
Personally, I wish more celebrities would keep their political views private since I find myself disappointed more often then not when I get wind of a particular celebrity’s political leanings.

No Peace In Boston
I was rather hoping we have heard the last of the feuding between various people connected with the group Boston. Report of a lawsuit seems to indicate that it might be quite a while before this stuff ever comes to an end.
Tom Scholz has filed a lawsuit against late Boston singer Brad Delp’s ex-wife and the wife of Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau for allegedly defaming him by blaming him for Brad Delp’s suicide last March.
Scholz is claiming that the women have made false statements about him in Internet chat rooms while using fake names and also set up a web site that was intended to confuse users and direct traffic away from his charitable web site dtscf.org.
The Boston Globe is reporting that a judge has thus far ordered a temporary restraining order to prevent Goudreau’s wife Connie from changing or deleting information on her computer.
For her part, Delp’s ex-wife Micki is said to have not bothered responding to the suit and is therefore automatically found liable. Scholz attorney Sue Stenger says that any monetary payment due from Micki Delp will be decided in the coming months. Scholz’s lawsuit does not specify a dollar amount.
I guess it was a bit foolish to believe that all the nastiness had come to an end following the Brad Delp tribute concert last August. It all seemed to go so well and there seemed to be a copious amount of goodwill on hand at the event and now we hear about this.

New Brad Delp-Barry Goudreau Song Hits Airwaves
Over the past week or so, a brand-new track by late Boston singer Brad Delp and former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau. The new track, “Rockin’ Away” has been getting some airplay on Boston area radio stations.
“Rockin’ Away” was the last song that Delp and Goudreau worked on together before Delp’s death in March. The song was recorded last summer to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Boston’s first album, which I recall very well and was happy to spend a few bucks on at the time.
Goudreau reports that the new song is something that sounds like it might have come from the original Boston album. I have not personally heard it myself, but word is that it will be available as a download on iTunes in the near future.
I suppose it might be time to dust off an FM radio here and tune in to one of the Boston area’s classic rock stations and see if I can catch this one.

Boston Rehearsal Recording Available
Posted on the official Boston Band web site is a recording from a rehearsal from the band as they prepared for the Brad Delp tribute show that took place last month.
The first part is the familiar sound of one of Boston’s best-known hits, “More Than A Feeling.” Michael Sweet is handling lead vocal duties and doing a pretty good job.
As Tom Scholz points out in his commentary, the recording is a bit rough around the edges and has not been mixed down to get that studio sound you would expect from an album. It’s still interesting to listen to and the sound is certainly not terrible.
I’m not sure what the second half of this recording is but I really got into it when I heard it. It’s kind of a heavy guitar and drums thing and I don’t know if it is something someone wrote or whether they were just jamming around with some stuff. Whatever it was, I like it.
Check out the recording near the bottom of the page on the Boston web site.

More Kind Words For Boston’s Brad Delp
There’s an interesting blog post by a Boston-area songwriter John Gregory Martin who was left with a very good impression after meeting Brad Delp.
He was also impressed by Delp’s ability as a singer and apparently saw him perform a few times.
More interestingly, Martin somehow came into some old Boston demo tapes from 1975 which he kindly shares by way of a link on his blog.
These recordings are obviously not as polished as the same songs as they were recorded for Boston’s first album, but even still, I was impressed with them and the sound of the band at that time. And yes, as Martin points out on his blog, Brad Delp does sound damn good.
Martin also reports that he was in attendance at the Brad Delp Tribute Sunday night and describes it as a “classy, enjoyable event.”

Hard Feelings Put Aside (Mostly) For Brad Delp Tribute
Reports from last night’s Brad Delp Tribute show indicate that the show was a success and that many of those who were ever involved with the band put aside any hard feelings and got together to remember and pay tribute to their friend.
The only hint of any kind of problem at all was mention that former Boston drummer Sib Hashain was snubbed by Tom Scholz when he failed to mention Hashain’s name at any time during the event. According to reports, Scholz and Hashain have been feuding for quite some time.
The Boston Herald and Boston Globe appear to be in disagreement about whether Hashain was part of the show. The Herald reports that he performed on stage with RTZ and Ernie & the Automatics during the event while The Globe reports that he did not play, but was in attendance.
If our weather here in Southern New Hampshire was any indication of the conditions in Boston last evening (it usually is), they had a pretty good night for the show. A little chilly for this time of year, but other than that, a pretty decent night and a good location to get out and party in honor of the late Boston singer.

Brad Delp Tribute Set For Tomorrow
The tribute to late Boston Singer Brad Delp is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. tomorrow at The Bank of America Pavilion.
There are recent articles in both the Boston Herald and Boston Globe that Boston fans might want to check out. The Globe story talks about the recent release of some e-mail messages that Delp and Tom Scholz had exchanged at the beginning of the year and how the messages seemed to cast doubt on some speculation that Delp’s suicide may have been prompted, in part, by trouble between the two.
Both newspapers report that a summer tour as well as a new CD was planned for Boston and that Delp and Scholz exchanged e-mail messages concerning Delp’s desire to take a few days away from the tour to get married.
From all accounts, Brad Delp was a great guy and I am sure he is greatly missed by family, friends and fans.
I have no plans to attend the tribute but I hope it all goes off without a hitch and turns out to be an event that Brad Delp would have approved of.

Brad Delp Tribute Update From Tom Scholz
The folks putting together the upcoming Brad Delp tribute show are working through their share of little snags and glitches, according to Tom Scholz.
Everything is still on track and the problems are being dealt with as they arise.
The latest update from Scholz includes word that Sammy Hagar will not be able to attend and will be replaced by Charlie Farren who toured with Boston as part of the band Farrenheit and also worked with Boston on the Corporate America album.
There is also news that Fran Sheehan and Barry Goudreau will be performing with the group.
