"Alice Cooper" (real name Damon Furnier, born on February 4, 1948) is a rock singer, songwriter and musician whose career has kept him going for more then forty years. With a well-known "shock rock" show that often features guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, and boa constrictor snakes, Cooper has found inspiration in horror movies, vaudeville acts, heavy metal music, and garage rock which he has used to create a unique theatrical brand of rock music that is his trademark.
"Alice Cooper" was originally a group made up of Furnier on vocals and harmonica, lead guitarist Glen Buxton, Michael Bruce on rhythm guitar, Dennis Dunaway on bass guitar, and drummer Neal Smith. The original "Alice Cooper" group broke the barrier of the international music mainstream with their signature track "I'm Eighteen" in 1971. The album that spawned that success, Love it to Death, was soon followed by the even more successful single "School's Out" during 1972.
The group seemed to reach their height of success with the 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies. In 1975 Furnier decided to take on the name of his group, "Alice Cooper," as his own name. That same year, the group released Welcome to My Nightmare. More recently, the group released Along Came A Spider, and continues to tour.
Cooper himself is also well-known as an avid golfer, author, restaurateur, actor and disc jockey, hosting his popular classic rock radio show Nights with Alice Cooper.
