Bob Dylan, whose real name is Robert Allen Zimmerman was born on May 24, 1941. Although Dylan is best known for his role as a performer, he is also an author, poet and painter. Dylan's musical career spans five decades, with much of his most celebrated work coming in the 1960s. At that time Dylan became a rather reluctant symbol of the unrest and cultural revolution that was taking place in the United States.
A number of Dylan's songs, such as "Blowing In The Wind" and "The Times They Are Changing" were adopted as anthems for both the civil rights movement and those opposed to the war in Vietnam.
Dylan's early work touched on political, social and literary topics which are no doubt responsible for his appeal to those who embraced the idea or of revolution and political change during those troubled times.
During his career at Dylan has amassed an impressive number of awards for his song writing and recording. Dylan has been the recipient of Grammy Awards, Golden Globe and Academy Awards, and was also inducted into the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and songwriters Hall of Fame.
