"Foreigner" is headed up by British journeyman rocker Mick Jones, who was a former member of groups such as Nero and the Gladiators, Spooky Tooth, and The Leslie West Band. During 1976 Jones hooked up with ex-King Crimson member Ian McDonald in New York City and formed the group with Lou Gramm, Dennis Elliott, Al Greenwood, and Ed Gagliardi.
Jones is credited with coming up with the name "Foreigner" given the fact that he, McDonald, and Elliott were British, while Gramm, Greenwood, and Gagliardi were Americans. The group's debut album Foreigner hit the stores in March of 1977 and ended up selling more than four million copies in the United States, and remaining in the Top 20 for a year with well-worn hits like "Feels Like the First Time", "Cold as Ice", and "Long Long Way From Home".
Their second album, entitled Double Vision made its way onto the scene and topped their previous selling five million albums and included the hit track "Hot Blooded", the title track "Double Vision" as well as "Blue Morning Blue Day". "Foreigner's" third album, Head Games, which Lou Gramm called their "grainiest" album, was also a commercial success thanks to two more hits, "Dirty White Boy" and the title track.
"Foreigner" has gone through an impressive number of personnel during their years, and today the group bears little resemblance to the original line-up, with only Mick Jones remaining as the sole original member.
