George Harrison was an British rock guitarist, singer-songwriter and film producer. He is best known for his role as lead guitarist in "The Beatles." Earning a reputation as "the quiet Beatle", Harrison was influenced by Indian mysticism which helped broaden the horizons of the other members of "The Beatles" and their western audience as well.
Following the breakup of "The Beatles," Harrison enjoyed a successful career as a solo artist and later joined with the "Traveling Wilburys." Harrison also made a name for himself as a film and record producer. Even though the majority of "The Beatles'" songs were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, Harrison generally wrote one song per side starting with the Help! album. His later compositions with "The Beatles" include some of their most recognized hits such as "Here Comes the Sun", "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
Harrison continued writing on his own as a solo artist and released a successful triple album entitled All Things Must Pass, in 1970, which included the number one single "My Sweet Lord". Beyond his solo work, Harrison co-wrote two hits with Ringo Starr, another ex-Beatle and also material for the "Traveling Wilburys," a group which also included with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison.
In his work as a film producer, he collaborated with a diverse collection of people, ranging from Madonna to members of "Monty Python." His other interests included gardening and motor racing. Harrison married twice, first to the model Pattie Boyd in 1966, and then to record company secretary Olivia Trinidad Arias in 1978, with whom he had one son, Dhani Harrison. He was a close friend of fellow guitarist Eric Clapton.
George Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001.
