"Iron Maiden" was put together in the year 1975 in Leyton, East London, England. The group, led by founder, bass player and songwriter Steve Harris has a total of released fourteen studio albums, nine live albums, four EPs and eight compilations. Considered by many to be pioneers of the new wave of the British heavy metal movement, "Iron Maiden" enjoyed popularity in the early 1980's, and after several personnel changes, they went on to release a series of platinum and gold albums.
These included the US platinum-selling The Number of the Beast during 1982 and the follow up album Piece of Mind in the following year. "Iron Maiden" released their most recent studio album in 2006. A Matter of Life and Death, peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified gold in the U.K.
"Iron Maiden" has sold more than 70 million albums the world over, even while they lacked significant mainstream or radio support. The group won the Ivor Novello Awards for international achievement in 2002, and they were also inducted into the Hollywood RockWalk on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California during their 2005 American tour.
