"Jefferson Airplane" was a San Francisco-based rock band that was founded in 1965. As pioneers of the psychedelic rock movement, "Jefferson Airplane" was the first group from the San Francisco scene to achieve genuine commercial success.
Throughout the years of the late 1960's "Jefferson Airplane" was one of the most in-demand and well-paid concert acts in the world. Their recordings were successful around the world and that was reflected by impressive sales. The group scored two U.S. Top 10 hit singles and a series of Top 20 albums.
Their 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow is widely considered as one of the key recordings of the so-called "Summer of Love" period and brought the group recognition from beyond the shores of the U.S. Successor bands to "Jefferson Airplane" include "Jefferson Starship" and "Starship" while spin offs include "Hot Tuna" and "KBC Band."
