Paul McCartney MBE is a multiple Grammy Award-winning British singer-songwriter, poet, composer, multi-instrumentalist, entrepreneur, record producer, film producer, painter, and animal rights activist. He gained worldwide acclaim as a member of "The Beatles," with John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. McCartney and Lennon made up one of the most influential songwriting partnerships and were responsible for some of the most popular music in history.
After "The Beatles" broke up, McCartney started a successful solo career and put together a band called "Wings," with his first wife, Linda Eastman McCartney along with singer-songwriter, Denny Laine. McCartney is listed in Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in pop music history, with 60 gold discs and sales of 100 million singles to his credit. His song "Yesterday" is listed as the most covered song in history, performed by over 3,700 artists thus far. It has been played more than 7,000,000 times on U.S. television and radio.
McCartney is also well known as an advocate for animal rights, vegetarianism, and music education. He is also active in campaigns against land mines, seal hunting, and Third World debt.
