With his distinctive raspy voice, Rod Stewart found fame in the late 1960's and early 1970's as part of "The Jeff Beck Group" and then with "Faces." Stewart launched his solo career in 1969 with his debut album An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down, which was entitled The Rod Stewart Album for the U.S. market.
His time spent with "The Jeff Beck Group" and "The Faces" was influential on the formation of the heavy metal and punk rock genres, respectively. Both groups were also recognized as pioneers of blues-rock.
With a career that spans more than a half century, Stewart has recorded numerous solo hit singles, most notably in the U.K., where he has earned six consecutive number one albums. His total of 62 hit singles include 31 that reached the top 10, six of which reached all the way to the top to claim the number one position.
Stewart has also had sixteen top ten singles in the United States, with four reaching number one. His best-known hit singles are "Maggie May", "You Wear It Well", "Sailing", "Tonight's the Night (Gonna Be Alright)", "Hot Legs", "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?", "Forever Young" and "Rhythm of My Heart." It has been estimated that Stewart's album and single sales total more than 250 million, earning him a spot on the list of best-selling music artists.
