Up until now, Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant has been a bit, shall we say, evasive, when he is asked about the possibilities of Led Zeppelin reunion and perhaps even a world tour. The group has been besieged by fan requests that the group get back together again since their wildly successful show at the O2 in London last year.
Now we hear from Mr. Plant that the real reason he has put off any plans for a reunion are all about bureaucracy. Plant insists that he dreads the idea of dealing with the reams of paperwork that would be a necessary part of putting a reunion together.
Speaking with regard to the mountain of paperwork he had to deal with prior to the O2 show, Plant told GQ Magazine that “The endless paperwork was like nothing I’ve experienced before. I’ve kept every one of the emails that were exchanged before the concert and I’m thinking of compiling them for a book, which I feel sure would be hailed as a sort of literary version of Spinal Tap.”
I’ll be the first one to admit that I have no idea how much paperwork is involved prior to a Led Zeppelin reunion show, but I’ll take Plant’s word for it that it’s a lot. That being the case, I don’t know how it compares to buying a house, but having been through that process three times myself, I know that involves a lot of paperwork as well, but it was always well worth it.
Whether or not Plant caves in to fan demand and decides to wield his mighty pen in a battle that will be waged against a virtual mountain of paperwork is something we’ll have to wait on, but that’s been the story ever since the O2 show, so Zeppelin fans may be getting used to it at this point.
What’s not particularly encouraging from a fan perspective is another quote from Plant who reportedly stated, “Led Zeppelin’s never been about the fans. We’ve always been about four guys coming together to make thrilling, disturbing rock ‘n’ roll. On our own terms.”
How fans react to that kind of statement is not known yet, but I have a feeling it won’t do much to hurt ticket sales if the group does decide to go ahead and plan a reunion tour. I just hope Plant doesn’t end up with carpal tunnel syndrome or something from all that paperwork.
