Journey Takes To The Stage With New Lead Singer

Filed under: Classic Rock News,Journey — Real Rock News on February 23, 2008 (14:50)

Newly-hired Journey frontman, Arnel Pineda took to the stage with his new band mates for the first time a few nights ago at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Viña del Mar, Chile.

In the video of the performance below, you can see how he took on the legendary Journey ballad “Faithfully.”

Personally, I think he holds his own quite well onstage with the group. He’s not quite the shoe-in for the Steve Perry role that Stave Augeri was, but there’s a definite similarity in his style and voice and I think he’ll do quite will in his new role.

  1. Right! I think he’s got that distinct and solid rocker’s voice which is what exactly Journey needs in this era. He sounds similar to S Perry, but only with more horsepower as he revvs up.

  3. Arnel is simply amazing, Journey totally deviated from SP’s voice. through Arnel they now have a rock/metal voice that could belt out there songs. Martini with a twist!

  4. At this point in Journey’s long journey, they have found a true Journey man to carry them to the next decade and captivate the x-gen’s and the next gen’s and keep singing their beautiful songs. All Journey men should be excited that they are alive and kicking again, including those in the retirement homes and convalescent hospitals. That’s how old this journey have been with this band. Hopefully they will continue to out live us. Long live the new lead singer – Arnel Pineda. Isn’t it that
apl.d.ap of the Black Eyed Peas’s is also Filipino and his real name is Arnel Pineda? Hmmmm…

  6. Arnel’s debut with Journey in Chile is just amazing. Though he was compared to S. Perry, Arnel sounds more lively with lots of energy than the former. Polishing the gem will definitely astound the hidden beauty of his pipes. Reviewed his chords from Arnel’s Phil-band, he can belt flexibility. Personality, I think he can cover the current “manga” which the youngs crave for. I do agree with comment#4, old youthful fans may come alive thru memories reborn. Goodluck Journey, you had hit a shot of adrenalin and a new fan here.

  7. To comment no.4 , i think the Black Eye Pea member’s name is Alan Pineda.
The day after Vina’s concert, i have followed the videos while Mr.Fernalcaraz have been loading part by part, and i had fun that day!
Having been viewed Arnel Pineda’s performance with his Philippines gig thru You Tube, what i have seen on Vina Concert was far beyond my expectation. He had occupied the whole stage, and he integrated with the crowd!

Just close your eyes, listen, and re-live the past while Arnel sings…this has been really a long JOURNEY that we enjoyed before, NOW, and well into the future. Thanks to JOURNEY for taking Arnel Pineda onboard. I hope someday that JOURNEY will do a concert in the PHILIPPINES!!!!

  14. That dude is like a shot of testosterone for Journey just what they need, a solid performer with an amazing style and voice all his own. He performed with all his heart which makes it really an amazing experience for the audience. We saw the group in Mountain View Amphitheater and they rock!
