Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page Receives Honorary Degree
In addition to legendary Guitar God, I suppose Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page might also be addressed as “doctor” from now on. Page was recently endowed with an honorary doctorate degree, courtesy of the University of Surrey.
The degree is said to be for Page’s services to the music industry. Page was presented with the degree at a ceremony on June 20, after which he lingered a while to sign a guitar that is to be given away as part of a competition at Guilfest festival.
Although rock stars may seem a bit out-of-place at a university ceremony, this was not Page’s first visit to the grounds of the University of Surrey. Back in the very early days of Led Zeppelin the group played their first gig under that name (after dumping the name The New Yardbirds) at the university in 1968.
