Apparently, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s lead vocalist, Johnny Van Zant is singing a different tune these days. Three months after having a polyp removed from his vocal chords he has recently been overheard singing the jingle from the old Purina “Meow Mix” cat food television commercial.
As you may recall, this particular commercial jingle consisted of “meow meow meow meow” repeated as many times as the ad writers figured it would take to be forever recorded in your memory.
One may reasonably presume that Van Zant has gone a little crazy until you understand that this unusual performance is being done on doctor’s orders.
For whatever reasons, doctors have determined that this particular jingle represents a good form of excercise for the recovering singer’s voice. His performance, however, is not unappreciated since his 3-year-old daughter seems to enjoy hearing it, as well as singing along with dad.
A recent article in the The Daily Herald talks about Van Zant’s recovery and shares some of his thoughts regarding the news that the band will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.
