A Sign of The Apocalypse: Led Zeppelin And Aerosmith Rumors Merge
Although this “superrumor” has been declared unfounded, the rock world was buzzing for a bit over the past couple of days over rumors of a new supergroup that would include members of Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. Throw Eric Clapton into the mix and you’ve got the makings of a white hot rock rumor.
It appears it all started when some comments by recording engineer Kevin Shirley were misinterpreted. Shirley, talking about some of the legendary guitar players he has worked with, mentioned Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Joe
Perry, and Brad Whitford. That’s one hell of a lot of axe men in a single band!
I suppose one could understand how a renowned recording engineer mentioning those three names in the same sentence might prompt speculation about a new supergroup. After all, the formation of supergroups seems to be all the rage these days.
In addition to the guitar gods he has worked with, Shirley also made a comment regarding secret projects that are in the works that were referred to as “high profile.” It was this combination that may have set off the spark that erupted into the rumors about the new super-duper supergroup.
The rumor seems to have originated on LedZeppelinNews.com, which has since posted a retraction stating that the error was regrettable. But hell, it’s kind of fun to see how things like this spread like wildfire across the internet.
It appears that even Kevin Shirley, a.k.a. “The Caveman,” was somewhat amused himself, and posted a response on Mog.com which reads, “And Michael Schumacher will drive the bus… Gordon Ramsey will cater and Spielberg will do the video!!! It’s pretty silly to read between the lines, but I guess it adds hits to the page.”
It’s a relief to hear that this rumor is baseless since it would surely be a sign that something big is upon us. Since there was no mention of supergroups in any of Nostradamus’ writings that I am aware of, perhaps fear of the apocalypse would be a bit over-the-top however.

Brian May: No Queen Breakup
The rumor seems to have originated on an Austrian website that reported Queen and Paul Rodgers performed together for the last time when they played in Rio de Janeiro on November 29.
The site in question, www.oe24.at reported that a “cryptic message” on Brian May’s personal web site was an indication that the group was planning to split up. The reason for the split was reported to be due to dismal sales of the group’s recent album The Cosmos Rocks.
The Cosmos Rocks sold only 12,000 copies during the first week of its release and debuted at position number 47 on
The Billboard 200 Chart.
According to Brian May, who recently posted a response to the report on his website said there are no plans for the group to part company, and he insists that they are just taking a break following their tour.
Replying to a fan from Finland who inquired about the reported breakup, May responded by saying, “Well, I don’t know where anyone got that idea – Roger and Paul and myself haven’t made any decisions whatsoever about the future … We just need a rest!”

Rumor Mill Churns Out Hint For ‘Big Reformation’ Next Year
Speaking recently with BBC News, concert promoter Rob Hallett has hinted that a big name group from the 1970’s will reform next year. Hallett, who has some pretty impressive credentials when it comes to coaxing performers back into the spotlight, refused to provide any details other than the following clue:
“If you were a teenage boy in the pre-punk ’70s you’re going to be very excited. The announcement of that isn’t a million miles away. Outside of Led Zeppelin, this is probably the biggest reformation you can hope for.”
This has, of course, aroused the curiosity of many a classic rock fan and speculation about which group it is runs the gamut from Black Sabbath to ELO. We’ll keep our ear to the ground for any leaks that might materialize before the official announcement is made.

AC/DC In Vancouver To Begin Recording?
There’s a new report from BW&BK that claims AC/DC arrived in Vancouver, British Columbia last night to begin work on their new album.
BW&BK is reporting this information via one of their sources and also makes reference to another report on their site that talks about some information from AC/DC’s record label, Albert Music, about building excitement with regard to a new album from the Aussie rockers.
As some AC/DC fans may recall, a bogus e-mail was circulating a few months back that was claiming to be from Sony Music and talked about the possibility of a new AC/DC album.
Looks like there could actually be something cooking this time and perhaps AC/DC fans can look forward to a new album. The groups last album, Stiff Upper Lip, was released in 2000.
