Shining A Light on Scorsese And The Rolling Stones

Filed under: Classic Rock News, Rolling Stones — Real Rock News @ 12:12 pm

Renowned director Martin Scorsese’s new film about the Rolling Stones is earning him some favorable reviews. I suppose that’s no surprise considering some of his previous work such as Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino.

The new film, Shine A Light is described by Scorsese as the culmination of 40 years worth of filming the Rolling Stones.

Scorsese and the Stones recently had a chat with U.K. newspaper The Times. It’s an article of considerable length compared to the entertainment pieces I normally see, and is an interesting read, particularly if you are a serious Stones fan.

Although there’s a lot more included in the article, one of the tidbits I found most interesting included word from Mick Jagger and Charlie Watts regarding Christina Aguilera’s performance. They seemed very impressed with her vocal abilities and her ability to keep her cool onstage with the legendary Stones. Aguilera was a guest performer at the New York City show where the Shine A Light was filmed.

There’s also a story or two related by the Stones, such as the mention of a time when there was some trouble in Arkansas when Keith Richards was driving while stoned and wound up in jail for a day.

‘Rolling Stones Radio’ Returns To SIRIUS

Filed under: Classic Rock News, Rolling Stones — Real Rock News @ 1:38 pm

Just in time to celebrate the release of Martin Scorsese’s new film featuring the Rolling Stones, SIRIUS Satellite Radio is brining “Rolling Stones Radio” back on the air for a month.

Readers may be aware that I have been a fan of SIRIUS ever since I rolling-stones-logo discovered it being carried on my Dish Network programming package a few years ago. The lack of commercials that plague terrestrial radio endlessly was the main reason I enjoyed listening to SIRIUS.

The new Scorsese film, Shine A Light, will open in “selected cities” on April 4, while “Rolling Stones Radio” will come to life on SIRIUS channel 12 tomorrow, March 18 with a scheduled end date of April 15.

“Rolling Stones Radio” last aired on SIRIUS during 2005 when the Rolling Stones released their album, A Bigger Bang.

Although SIRIUS has announced plans to keep “Rolling Stones Radio” on the air for about a month, there is the possibility that it could enjoy a longer life if there is enough demand for the channel. SIRIUS recently extended the life of the “E Street Radio,” a station dedicated to the music of Bruce Springsteen And the E Street Band.
