Van Halen Recording New Album and Planning 2011 Tour

The current incarnation of Van Halen is in the studio working on a brand-new album. This album will come within one band member of being an historic release from the original Van Halen. Former bassist Michael Anthony, who was reportedly willing to reunite with the original members back in 2007, was never offered the opportunity and was instead replaced by Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang.

Although fans have had the chance to see the new Van Halen live during their previous tour, this will be the first new music that the group will record together.

The last studio album the group released was 1998’s Van Halen III, when Gary Cherone was fronting the band. After 10-plus years, it will surely be interesting to see what emerges from the studio when the new album is complete.

In addition to the release of the new album, which is expected sometime next year, Van Halen may also be planning to go on tour in support of the new album.

The news of the new album was revealed as part of a press release from Warner/Chappell, which announced the extension of their agreement with Eddie and Alex Van Halen and allow the company to continue to “administer their catalog of works.”

2011 should be a big year for Van Halen, and although some fans would have loved to see Michael Anthony re-join the band for a “real” reunion, it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards. It’s a story that seems to play itself out with other classic rock acts as well. Many of them just cannot seem to get over the personal grudges and other emotional baggage of the past that prevents them from teaming up to bring fans an experience that would be as close as possible to a genuine reunion.

Even so, enough demand seems to exist to take Van Halen into the next chapter in their history and continue rocking their fans with David Lee Roth back onboard – something that seemed quite unlikely six or so years ago when Roth was working as an EMT in the rough-and-tumble neighborhoods of New York City. I guess you just never know.

Eddie is an ass . Daves EGO is way big . Alex is Eddies puppet . And last but not least , Wolfie just doesnt belong . Its nothing but a soap opera with VH . Lame , boring and redundant .

Come on Lisa! You’re doing what Michael Anthony is doing and holding on to the emotional baggage. Who cares if Eddie is an Ass, and if Dave’s ego is way big, as long as they put out some good rock and roll. Would you go see them if they came to El Paso? I know I would, and I wouldn’t be missing Michael Anthony. Let’s give Wolfie a chance.

mike, michael anthony doesn’t have emotional baggage. the article clearly states:

“Former bassist Michael Anthony, who was reportedly willing to reunite with the original members back in 2007, was never offered the opportunity and was instead replaced by Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang.”

the problem is 100% eddie. lisa is correct.

I believe they are reuiniting for John Lennon. You see he has a lovechild daughter coming. She is going to inherit a fortune of money along with some beatle copyrights. Ono had hid this from her for years. Now Ono got caught. The buzz is in the music anything for the great John Lennon. Even some of these bands are putting their anger aside because they know John Lennon suffered greatly because he couldn’t be allowed to see this daughter then he was murdered. His chances were gone. A real heartbreaker of a story. With the grace of God 2010 could be her date of truth.

I love Van Halen to death, but they can’t get their shit together. First they get David back, but then they get rid of Michael. For Eddie to replace Michael with somebody who is a year older than me is a disgrace to the Van Halen name. Michael brought life to Van Halen with his thumping, down-home bass lines, and his beautiful background vocals, both of which were missed when they toured in 2007. It’s because of Eddie Michael wasn’t allowd to write anything, or be a better bassist as it was in the contract. As far as I’m concerned, it is NOT Van Halen without the original four, and that includes Michael Anthony. For those of you who say Michael Anthony isn’t important to Van Halen, you can all go to hell.

Hey Mike, let’s NOT give “Wolfie” a chance.

They need the original band members back. Wolfie just doesn’t belong and neither does there singer. Let’s all hope for the best!! They were better when they first started

  9. FIXX November 27, 2010 at 10:32 am

Well I’d hope for the original members, it would be nice.
I’m guessing Eddie is trying to get Wolfie invovled but should approach it how Gene Simmons did with Nick.
It’s not like Wolfie isn’t going to have any money NOT playing with them.
Past articles Eddie said Wolfie is WAAAY better than Michael, don’t know but he just looks outta place.

This album will be a huge disappointment. Everyone is expecting it to sound like Old Van Halen, but it’s not going to. I’m sure its going to sound good, but it’s not going to be what the True Fans are wanting to hear. But it will be nice to finally hear some amazing guitar sounds from Eddie. It’s been a long time, way too long.

Troy, it’s GOT to be better than Van Halen III

Most people don’t know this fact, but Michael Anthony didn’t play on many of the studio albums. Eddie played bass on 90% of the studio recordings. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that’s the truth.

Eddie van halen is quite an asshole. But he’s a great guitarist. As a fellow guitarist i like and respect him.
