Another Scorpions Interview: Lead Guitarist Matthias Jabs
The Scorpions are now in the early stages of the U.S. leg of their tour and lead guitarist Matthias Jabs took a little time out to talk to Ultimate Guitar.
Naturally, there is a lot of talk about the new album, Humanity: Hour 1, and the process the band used to select the producer for the album.
Jabs goes into some detail about the guitars and amplifiers he is currently using and relates an amusing story about how he had only one guitar back in the early days and ended up buying another one while touring here in the U.S. that was an exact duplicate of the guitar he already had, so he decided to put some tape on it so that everyone would know he had more than one guitar.
Although he did not realize it at the time, he had created the signature striped design he uses on his guitars today.
He is also asked about a story that says he did some guitar work on a Cliff Richard album and set the record straight.
He’s obviously not too happy with the stuff that is being played on the radio in Europe these days, and from the way he described it, I guess I would not be too happy about either. Sounds like techno crap dominates the airwaves there these days.
That makes me wonder if there are any “classic rock” stations in Europe like we are so familiar with here in the U.S.
Wish you would have told Jabs to lose the hats. Who’s that guy kidding? Be like me, bald and proud.
