Rock Your Baby
— September 15, 2008 0 12No, I’m not talking about your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend or “significant other.” I’m talking about actual babies. You know, the little ones that tend to cry a lot and have that creepy “soft spot” on the top of their heads.
Most of us are aware of the rising popularity among kids these days of what we refer to as “classic rock.” Well, this is taking it to a whole new level, and to me it sounds like a pretty cool idea. Why not get little Jacob or Emily off to a good start with some classic rock lullabies?
As Lisa Roth, vice president of CMH Records puts it: “The MTV generation is having babies now.” She got the idea for the Rockabye Baby idea after she wasn’t able to find a gift she was satisfied with for an upcoming baby shower.
Then there’s Kidz Bop, an idea that developed “seven years ago, when there was no music for children that weren’t quite ready for Britney Spears,” says Sandi Hemmerlein, vice president of marketing at Kidz Bop.
Both of these companies offer CDs with music that would make any classic-rock-loving new parent proud. Just get a load of some of these CD titles from the Rockabye Baby collection: Lullaby Renditions of Metallica, Lullaby Renditions of Pink Floyd, Lullaby Renditions of Led Zeppelin and Lullaby Renditions of AC/DC.
I’m trying to picture infants rocking out to Led Zeppelin’s “Dazed and Confused” or AC/DC’s “Hell’s Bells.” Yes, those two titles are actually on the CDs being offered by Rockabye Baby. Naturally, these tunes have been toned down in order to be classified as lullabies, but even if babies all over aren’t rocking their cribs to the sounds of John Bonham’s drums or Angus Young’s guitar, it’s still a very cool idea.
If my kids were still babies, and weren’t already teenagers who are rocking out to many of the songs I rocked out with at their age, I’d probably be ordering up some of these CDs to get them off to a good start where appreciation for music is concerned.
Both Rockabye Babyand Kidz Bop are available at Amazon.com if you have a baby with an urge to rock.
