Aerosmith Tour on Hold For One or Two Months

Filed under: Aerosmith, Classic Rock News — Real Rock News @ 12:49 pm

It appears that fan fears of a halt to the current Aerosmith tour were justified. Talking with WXRX radio, guitarist Joe Perry reveals that it is expected to take longer than first believed for frontman Steven Tyler to recover from his recent fall, Joe Perry Photo From Aeroforceone.com and the tour is now on hold.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, when the tour’s going to pick up, I’ve heard anywhere from four weeks to two months,” Perry reported. “I don’t know what we’re going to do with the tour.”

Although there was no talk regarding the exact nature of Tyler’s most recent injuries, there are reports from other sources that are saying Tyler is suffering from a broken shoulder. Not quite as dramatic as the “Steven Tyler is dead” nonsense that has been making the rounds, but for a guy who tore a major leg muscle not long ago, it’s a tough break.

Although the “official” word has not come down yet on the status of the tour, it is probably a pretty safe bet that Perry knows what’s going on and would not be talking about putting the tour on hold without good reason.

Perry’s not sitting around doing nothing while he waits for the tour to resume, however. “As soon as … I knew the tour was going to get postponed or canceled or whatever, I was like, ‘All right where’s the first radio station?’,” he said. He also plans to work on some new music and do some traveling. From the sound of it, he may have plenty of time to get some of those things done.

Reason To Worry For Aerosmith Ticket Holders?

Filed under: Aerosmith, Classic Rock News — Real Rock News @ 9:21 am

The latest injury to put the brakes on the current Aerosmith tour is reported to be minor in nature, but seems to have created some confusion about the status of the tour. It has been announced that tonight’s show in Winnipeg has been Steven Tyler Photo From Aeroforceone.compostponed to allow for Tyler’s recovery, and fans holding tickets to other shows may be wondering if Winnipeg will be the last postponement for the tour.

There is no word on whether Tyler has been released from the hospital yet, but believe it or not, internet rumors have been circulating that suggest the Aerosmith vocalist has died. There are no credible reports that Tyler has died and it’s probably just something that someone decided to start just to see how far it would go.

Regardless of whether we see more postponements or not, this has to be one of the most (if not the most) injury-plagued tours in the history of rock. I certainly would not blame them if they decided that this was their last tour. Perhaps they are beginning to feel like someone is trying to tell them something.

More than likely, Tyler is just feeling a bit sore from his tumble off the catwalk at the Sturgis show and may need a few days to recover. Hopefully, he will be exercising a little more caution onstage when the tour resumes. A torn leg muscle and a fall within such a short period of time may be an indication that the 61-year-old rocker should slow things down just a bit.

Steven Tyler Injury Holding Up Aerosmith Tour

Filed under: Aerosmith, Classic Rock News — Real Rock News @ 12:25 pm

Word has it that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is dealing with some type of medical issue that has caused the recent concert postponements as the veteran rock group’s tour got underway. The band is not saying much about what actually ails Tyler, so it is unclear if it should be classified as an illness or an injury.

Guitarist Joe Perry recently updated fans via his Twitter account saying, “Sincere apologies out 2 all Aero Fans regarding the canceled shows. It really bums me out too- you have no idea. Pray 4 Stevens speedy return.”

Hopefully the mention of prayer is not an indication that Tyler is seriously ill. One usually does not hear someone encouraging others to pray from someone who has sprained their ankle or broken a finger, but perhaps he’s thinking more about the fans that are holding tickets to upcoming shows and that Tyler’s (hopefully) minor medical issues will be resolved soon.

Fan reports from the group’s June 29th show indicate that Tyler may have pulled a leg muscle during the course of his performance, which would certainly not be considered life-threatening and may allow the group to resume the tour in a short time.

Harrisburg, PA rock radio station WRVV reported that Tyler tore his quad muscle during that show and that fans should hold onto their tickets for the re-scheduled shows.

There has been no announcement of a postponement for tomorrow night’s show in Raleigh, NC as of this writing, so perhaps the group plans to resume the tour there.

Aerosmith’s Whitford Takes ‘Head Banging’ To A New Level

Filed under: Aerosmith, Classic Rock News — Real Rock News @ 12:38 pm

While the nature of Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford’s medical issues have been a bit of a mystery lately, we are now getting word that his problem resulted from a blow to the head, taking the slang term “head banger” to a new level.

Not to make light of what could have been a serious condition for the veteran rocker, but I can relate. I’m pretty notorious for being a klutz myself, and have hit my head on more things than I care to think about.

The good news is that Whitford had the good sense to seek medical treatment when he found himself suffering from symptoms of a serious head injury and is expected to make a full recovery. The band has set a tentative date of July 7th for Whitford to join the current tour and resume his rightful place in the Aerosmith lineup.image

As the story goes, Whitford was exiting his Ferrari about a week before the tour was scheduled to being and somehow impacted his head on the machine in the process. Unknown to him at the time, it caused a bleed in his head which later manifested itself as a severe headache and prompted him to seek treatment.

Surgery was performed to relieve the pressure that had been building from the internal bleed and Whitford is now recovering.

I suppose this is something for those of us prone to knocking our noggin on various solid objects to be wary of. Warning signs like the severe headache Whitford experienced may be in indication of a serious head injury.

The July 7th target date for Whitford’s return is the date on which the group is scheduled to perform in Raleigh, NC. I suspect he will be warmly welcomed by the assembled fans upon his return.

Australian Researchers Warn About The Dangers of Headbanging

Filed under: Classic Rock News — Real Rock News @ 4:43 pm

OK metal heads, listen up. Researchers at the University of New South Wales in the land down under have been setting their scientific sites on the phenomenon known as headbanging, and the conclusions they have reached don’t bode well for the physical well-being of the overzealous headbanger.

According to Dr. Andrew McIntosh, an average head-banging song with a tempo of 146 beats a minute could cause mild head injury when the head’s range of motion is greater than 75 degrees and the researchers say higher tempos which encourage greater ranges of motion carry a higher risk of injury.

Now I’ll be the first one to admit that I never understood headbanging and still do not. As one who has always been content to tap my foot on the floor or fingers on the table, just the thought of headbanging gives me a headache and probably a neck ache as well. Even in my younger days, the idea of whipping my head around like that made me fearful of permanent injury. Then there’s the fact that I never once felt the urge to try it.

Lord knows how guys like this can move their heads in such a fashion and continue to successfully produce music. It’s certainly something that is beyond my abilities. I’m all for headbanging or any other non-violent activity that helps music fans get into their favorite music, but be careful out there, headbangers!
